The Stars Dance Team is dance performance group composed
of 9th through 12th graders at Frisco High School. The team has dance
officers, a social committee, and managers that have specific duties on the
dance team. The officers are the leaders, teachers, and choreographers along
with the director.
To be a member of the Stars dance team, there are auditions that take
place in February of each school year. The tryouts concentrate on dance
technique and showmanship.
There is a clinic for the students trying out to learn the dances, kicks,
etc. The officers audition at another time where
they have a three day process with specific requirements.
The Stars have practice everyday and class every other day. There is a
mandatory band practice each week during football season. Football season is the
start to our busy year. They perform at the varsity football games. They are
seated in the stands performing various stand routines to the school fight song
and other songs. The Stars also
have a performance at each halftime. The Frisco High School band plays the music
as the Stars dance to various field routines. Performances can
consist of jazz, pom, kick, and prop routines. These routines are choreographed
and learned at their team dance camp every summer.
The Stars also participate in the Christmas parade for FISD each year!
They have a number of fundraisers they are responsible for throughout the year.
One, in particular, is the dance clinic for elementary and middle school aged
children. This is a fun and rewarding experience for both the Stars and the
children who attend. They learn a dance, play games, and also perform at a
basketball game with the Stars Dance Team in the spring!
Basketball season is fun for the Stars as well. They are able to perform
jazz, hip hop and other routines on the basketball court. They perform at the
girls and boys varsity halftimes. Also, they support other extra-curricular
activities and sports as well. They attend baseball games and show their school
pride and spirit for all athletics at Frisco High School.
Pep rallies are scheduled all year long where the Stars participate. Each pep
rally the Frisco High students look forward to seeing the Stars perform various
styles of dance routines and show their enthusiastic spirit for their school.
They perform various styles of dance routines at the pep rallies.
In March, competition season begins! The Stars work for months prior to
the start of competition season to get ready to compete and win! They take many
routines to compete. For example, there are team routines, ensembles, officer
routines, solos, etc. They compete in jazz, lyrical, hip hop, modern, pom, and various other
styles of choreography. Competition season is great preparation for the end of
the year spring show!
Lastly, the Stars collaborate to bring the students a spring show! This
is the biggest production at Frisco High School. The Stars have a variety of
dances in a two-act show where they choreograph dances and show off their
talent. There are also guest
performers such as the dance classes, cheerleaders, and football players from
Frisco High School. The show is such a success! The show contains a lot of energy and
highlights the Stars and their successful culmination of their year. Frisco High School looks forward to the Stars spring show
annually!
Finally, the school year ends and we are off to enjoy our summer! The
Moms and daughters have work-out classes together over the summer which is a lot
of fun! And during the summer the officers have a dance and leadership camp in
June. The entire Stars team then has dance camp in August and the new school
year begins again in late August.
The Stars are ready to start all over again with a lot of hard work and
success!!!!
